Saltwater Saturday, August 23rd

We invite you to come in for "Saltwater Saturday" from 11am-5pm. Learn about

Saltwater Fly Fishing from the Shop Staff, Local Guides and Fly Tiers. Free Fly Casting Demo's and Saltwater Fly Demo's will be going on all day. The day will be a comfortable informal format for those who would like to talk about Saltwater Fly Fishing.

There will be plenty of opportunity for one-on-one casting, fly tying, and general information help. We will also have Free Food and Refreshments (Beer and Soda)!

Introduction to Saltwater Fly Tying Class with Steve Silverio

Saturday August 23rd, 8am-11am

This is an introduction class for all of those who would like to start tying saltwater flies. We welcome beginner or intermediate fly tiers who have little to no experience tying saltwater flies. This 3 hour class will cover the basics along with helpful hints on selecting materials and hooks for your specific fly fishing need. Plan to have some fun in this class!

LOOKING AHEAD TO FALL 2008!

Steelhead Saturday, September 27th

Join us for a day of Steelhead Fly Fishing and Fly Tying. Rub elbows with other Steelhead anglers as well some special guests and learn the basics of fly fishing, and fly tying for Great Lakes Steelhead and Brown Trout. We also invite veteran Steelhead anglers who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences. See some interesting new Steelhead rods and tackle as well.

You will also be able to book a trip and fish for Steelhead in Pennsylvania!

We are scheduling some Steelhead Trips to our Lake Erie Tributaries this Fall. If you are interested in going, please call the shop and inquire. We will have the dates for the trip posted soon!

Steelhead Saturday is totally Free of charge. We invite all to attend!

*Youth Fly Tying Program

We are currently looking for volunteers to help teach young students to tie flies. We are currently working on Youth Fly Tying Program that will be held in conjunction with our Fly Tying Round Table. This program will be free of charge and open to school age kids who would like to learn. Here is a great chance to help young people to get into the sport. It is a great way to "give back" and help young students appreciate fly tying and fly fishing. Email Nick if you would like to help out; Thank You! (Please note: Hey guys and gals, I know there are many of you who would enjoy this! Please find time in your busy schedule to help out! This will be very rewarding!)

*We are also looking for 6-8 students from age 10-19 who would enjoy participating in the Youth Tying Program. Please inquire via email.

Summer Fly Fishing Update

Has the hot weather bogged you down? Are you running into warm water? If you want to continue productive summer fly fishing for Trout, you must seek out cold water. Where is the cold water you ask? Here are some of your options:

Many tail water fisheries release cold water all summer. Here are some examples: Tulpehocken Creek: With low water flows from the Blue Marsh Dam, fishing below the paper mill (Cacoosing Creek) can be the most productive area due to the cold water flow from this small stream. The area below the Cacoosing Creek has the deepest water on the creek. Give this area a try!
Codorus Creek in York County also releases very cold water!
The Gunpowder River in Maryland also releases very cold water! We suggest giving this river a try. Wild Rainbows and Browns are your reward! Our manager, John McLain is fishing the Gunpowder River all the time. Stop in and ask questions. He will gladly give you the skinny on the Gunpowder!
The Delaware River typically fishes well in the hot weather due to the fact that the dam on the West Branch of the Delaware usually releases water, making the fishing excellent. Check out the Delaware! Stop in and we can provide you with information!
Valley Creek in Chester County, PA is an excellent place to find cold water and wild Trout. Valley is spring fed and does quite well in the summer months.

Susquehanna Smallmouth Bass Update

We have had mixed reports from several anglers on the Bass fishing on the Susquehanna. It seems that the further upstream from Harrisburg you go, the better the reports. I urge anglers not to give up. Give the areas above Harrisburg a fair try, you might be surprised! Stay tuned for more information on the Susquehanna.
